The closing date for registering a product for entry is 7 May 2010. Closing date for final submission of the compulsory information is 12 May 2010. No late entries will be accepted.
The SABS Design Institute invites product designers and companies to enter their products into the 2010 SABS Design Excellence Awards. This award scheme was first established in 1969 and for more than 40 years the scheme has recognised the achievements of South African product designers, encouraged local product design and manufacture and promoted the international competitiveness of local products.

PRODUCT CATEGORIES
The award scheme comprises the following categories:
- Urban environment and landscape products, including urban furniture, equipment, tools and more.
- Education, leisure, sports goods and toys, including any range of sporting equipment and accessories, new materials, innovative ideas and unique applications.
- Electronics, information and communication technology (ICT).
- Home ware and office ware, including domestic appliances and furniture.
- Mechanical engineering, electrical power engineering, transport, automotive, mining and machinery.
- Medical and healthcare, including preventive and promotive products.
PRODUCTS’ ELIGIBILITY
Entries must comply with the following criteria to be eligible for adjudication:

Products entered must have been designed in South Africa, but need not be manufactured in South Africa.

An entry must be a manufactured product in full commercial production and be available on the market.

Prototypes and products still undergoing trials are not eligible.

An entry must comply with all applicable South African standards for the intended marketplace.

Once-off designs and pieces of art are not eligible.

The following types of products are also not eligible for entry: Consumable products, food, chemicals and drugs, electronic components and computer software, graphics for packaging and point-of-sale material, combat equipment, building and construction materials, architectural design, building design, bridges, and the like.
